Day 04
Today you will have tickets to visit Robben Island.
After breakfast make your way to the jetty at the Clocktower at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront to board the ferry for the half hour boat ride to Robben Island for your Robben Island tour. This was where former South African president, Nelson Mandela and other political prisoners were held. It is now a World Heritage Site with stunning views of Cape Town and Table Mountain.
For nearly 400 years Robben Island, 7 1/2 miles/12kms off the coast from Cape Town was a place of banishment, exile, isolation and imprisonment. It was here that rulers sent those they regarded as political troublemakers, social outcasts and the unwanted of society. During the apartheid years Robben Island became internationally known for its institutional brutality. Robben Island came to symbolize, not only for South Africa and the African continent, but also for the entire world, the triumph of the human spirit over enormous hardship and adversity. Today, you will be escorted around the island by an ex-political prisoner, and given insight into the past and how the human spirit triumphs.

Day 05
Spend the morning at leisure in Cape Town doing some last minute shopping or visit one of the many places of interest.
Then later this afternoon, you will be transferred and spend the afternoon at the Amy Biehl Foundation for some interaction with the foundations children! 18 years ago, on August 25, 1993, Amy made her transition from her eventful life on earth to an even larger life of committed service to the under-served and to the hopeful. The Amy Biehl Foundation draws breath and inspiration from Amy and her Legacy. It is a creation of family and friends who loved her in life, and is now extended by many hundreds of new friends - young and old - who want to make a constructive difference in their world and who enjoy doing this in Amy's name.
Amy's legacy is how she led her life. Hers is a legacy of inspiration, not tragedy. Amy was an extraordinary example of dedication, perseverance, courage, and compassion. She lived her life to the fullest, never accepting failure in any of her pursuits. It was her goal to become the best and to use her talents to improve the world. She believed it was her duty, as a person afforded opportunity and education, to actively seek social change for those not so fortunate. It was her dedication and courage that continues to inspire so many people throughout the world.
Amy's legacy lives inside so many people. It drives her mother to continue her work and flourishes among the staff of the Amy Biehl Foundation Trust in Cape Town. Her legacy has inspired young people in the United States and has been a source of opportunity to thousands of South African youth. Perhaps most amazingly, her legacy lives through two men who played a big role in her death. Today, Ntobeko Peni and Easy Nofemela spread Amy's legacy throughout their community in South Africa. It is their transformation that truly represents the powerful legacy of Amy Biehl. Their transformation is what Amy was working for.
Continuing to Gold Restaurant where you will be entertained and enjoy dinner.
Gold Restaurant is at the Gold of Africa Museum in Cape Town. Dinner is served outside under a huge awning structure. There is a set menu which consists of 16 different dishes from throughout Africa. The staff brings the food to your table in African bowls and the dishes and their origins are explained. During the meal you are entertained by beautifully attired singers and dancers. Their costumes were painstakingly researched and designed to reflect the different cultures throughout Africa. Be prepared for a vibrant evening of color, music, food, song and dance; the perfect venue if you want to experience something that is uniquely African!

Many South Africans gave much; some gave all, to achieve a truly democratic South Africa. Take this full day tour which shares some of the journey, pain and struggle of those heroes; witness the places, experience the diverse museums where these momentous, tumultuous years have been so well documented.
The day begins at the Hector Pieterson Museum, where we start to unravel the cause of the devastating riots, before travelling past Mandela House, where you have the option of visiting this small museum (own account).
The next significant stop is the fascinating Regina Mondi Church, site of so many of the underground meetings of the then banned political parties. Standing in here, you can feel the tension; picture the intensity, the strain on the faces of those unthinkably brave souls, committed at any cost to changing the way of life of a nation.
Have lunch in Soweto at a local restaurant (own account), before visiting the legendary Apartheid Museum. This is an interactive voyage of discovery, one which takes you from the dark days of "whites only" privilege, through to Nelson Mandela's historic release. The Apartheid Museum is a multimedia experience, with documentary film snippets, texts, sound clips and live accounts, recapturing life in the dark days of South Africa.
